No matter how much we think we know about makeup, there are always new products, new techniques and new trends that can surprise us, delight us, or even confuse us.

Let’s face it: it’s impossible to know everything. But if you learn at least a few of the best makeup tips out there, and remember to use them often, your makeup routine will improve, and it will help you feel like a pro.

To take your cosmetology skills to the next level, you may want to take a make up artist course and learn from the professional instructors. It’s fine to pick up a few make up tips from DIY tutorials, but you can also learn how to do the make up properly and become an expert.

Are you ready to look your best? These best makeup tips will simplify everything for you:

Tip #1: Choose the right makeup products for your skin tone

Ideally, all the makeup products you buy should be suited to your skin tone. To know whether you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone, simply look at the veins visible on your wrists. If they appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone. If they appear green, you have a warm skin tone, and if you are unsure, your tone is probably neutral.

Tip #2: Always do your makeup under natural light

Try to do your makeup under natural light as much as possible. Different types of artificial light can make your makeup look different, so the best way to make sure it will look as good as you want it to is to apply it under natural light.

Tip #3: Start with your eye makeup

Most of us start with our foundation, but many makeup experts are suggesting that we should actually start with our eyes, and that we should keep our foundation, concealer and powder for the end, which will help achieve a flawless look.

To really make the colour of your eyeshadow pop, start by covering your eyelids with white liner before you apply it. The white liner will act as an opaque base that will make the colour appear more vibrant.

Tip #4: Stay steady when applying eyeliner

Is your liner tugging on the skin of your eyelids when you try to draw a beautiful line? Hold the tip of the pencil near the flame of a lighter or of a candle for a few seconds, then test it out on your hand. It will be creamier, and easier to apply.

A spoon can work as a perfect stencil to draw your cat eyes. Using the stem of the spoon, trace a straight line that starts at the outer corner of each of your eyes. Then, place the round part of the spoon against your eyelid, and trace a curved line that joins the straight one.

A spoon can also be used as a shield for your eyelids while you apply your mascara. Simply hold the spoon to your eyelid to avoid ruining your eyeshadow with mascara.

Tip #5: Go for the smokey eye effect

It can be easy to go wrong with a smokey eye, but it can also be surprisingly easy to do this makeup right! To make sure both eyes are symmetrical, start by drawing a slanted hashtag on each of your eyelids with a creamy liner. Then, blend them out for perfect smokey eyes.

Tip #6: Use translucent powder to plump your lashes

After you have applied your first coat of mascara, you can dust some translucent powder on your lashes to plump them up. Then, apply a second coat of mascara for wonderful, voluminous lashes. Baby powder can be used instead of translucent powder.

Tip #7: Apply some blush under your foundation

For a natural look, you can try applying some blush to your cheeks before applying your foundation. Your skin will look as if it’s glowing from within.

To avoid peach fuzz, always apply your foundation using downward strokes. Upward strokes will only make the thin hair on your face stand out, and you don’t want that. Remember to use your fingers if you want a sheer coverage, and a brush if you want a full coverage.

Tip #8: Apply concealer under your eyes

The best way to brighten the area under your eyes is to apply your concealer in a triangular shape. These triangles will hide redness and shadows, and will also act as countouring for the sides of your nose.

Tip #9: Make your own lip gloss

Did you know that you can create your own lip gloss? With just a bit of petroleum jelly, you can turn your favourite colour of eyeshadow into a beautiful lip gloss. Simply mix a small quantity of the powder with the jelly, and apply to your lips.

Tip #10: Keep tidy with your lipstick and lip liner

After you have applied your lipstick, you can place a paper tissue on your lips before dusting translucent powder on it. Applied this way, the powder will help your lipstick last for hours.

If you are using a lip liner, you can define your cupid’s bow by drawing an X that aligns with your natural lip line. Then, apply your lipstick by starting in the middle of your lips, and moving outwards.
